Providers regularly shift the services they deliver, expand into new registration groups, or refine what they offer. The good news is that varying your registration isn’t as scary as it sounds. Changing Your Classes of Support or Service Delivery
Thinking about adding or removing classes of support? Maybe you’re expanding your services, or maybe you’re tightening your focus.
Either way, here’s your roadmap.
Step 1: Talk to Your Approved Quality Auditor (AQA)
Before you do anything else, check in with your AQA.
They’ll let you know whether your variation will trigger an out-of-cycle audit.
If it does, no stress. You’ll just start that process with them.
Step 2: Request the Variation Form
Send an email to variations@ndiscommission.gov.au.
You’ll get an automated reply with a fillable Application for Variation of Registration.
Important note:
This inbox is not monitored. Don’t email questions or extra documents here because no one reads them.
Step 3: Complete the Form
Fill it in with all the relevant details. Simple.
Step 4: Submit Through the Proper Channel
Email your completed form to registration@ndiscommission.gov.au.
Only your key personnel can submit it, so make sure the right person hits send.
What Happens If Your Variation Needs an Audit?
Here’s how it works depending on where you’re up to.
If your audit is still in progress:
Your application email needs to say that you’ve engaged an auditor and include proof of your confirmed audit dates.
If your audit is complete:
Your AQA will upload the audit report directly to the NDIS Commission Portal.
Once the Commission has all your documents, they’ll assess everything and send you a formal notice of the decision. If you’re approved, you’ll also get an updated Certificate of Registration.
One big reminder:
Submitting an application or completing an audit does not guarantee approval.
Only the NDIS Commissioner or their delegate can approve your request under section 73L of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013.
What Does the Commissioner Look At?
Two main things:
Whether your AQA says you meet the relevant NDIS Practice Standards
Whether you’re actually suitable to deliver the supports or services you’re applying for
That’s it. Nice and clear.
Varying Your Registration Conditions or Length
Maybe you’re not shifting your classes of support, but you want to change a registration condition or adjust how long your registration is valid. The process is similar.
Step 1: Request the Variation Form
Email variations@ndiscommission.gov.au to get the automated reply with the application form.
Step 2: Complete the Form
Nice and easy.
Step 3: Submit It
Send the completed form to registration@ndiscommission.gov.au.
Again, key personnel only.
From there, the NDIS Commission reviews your application and sends your decision notice and updated certificate (if applicable).
Same deal as before: submitting the application doesn’t equal approval.
