Preparing for Tax Time - QMS Subscription, a Deductible Business Expense
As the end of the financial year approaches, it’s a good time for NDIS and Aged Care providers to review business expenses and ensure all eligible deductions are accounted for. Many tools and systems used in day-to-day operations can be included as part of your tax return, including subscriptions to quality management software.
If you're using a platform like Centro QMS to manage compliance, documentation, incident reporting or policy updates, your subscription may be claimed as a legitimate business expense under current ATO guidelines.
Software Subscriptions as Tax Deductions
According to the Australian Taxation Office, businesses can deduct operating expenses that are directly related to earning income. For community care providers, this includes:
Subscriptions for business or operational software
Digital platforms used for compliance and quality management
Online tools supporting risk management and staff training
A QMS (Quality Management System) that helps your organisation meet sector standards such as the NDIS Practice Standards or the Aged Care Quality Standards falls into this category.
What you can do now
With the financial year coming to a close, it’s a practical time to:
Renew your QMS subscription if it’s due soon
Start a new subscription if you're looking to formalise or improve your compliance processes in FY25
Request tax invoices for your existing subscription to include in your tax return
If you use Centro QMS, you can contact the Centro Support team to request a copy of your tax invoices or check your subscription details.
A quick Checklist
To help you stay organised, here’s what you’ll need:
Subscription invoice(s) or receipts for the current financial year
Confirmation of payment dates for accurate reporting
Clarification from your accountant or bookkeeper if you’re unsure how to categorise the expense
Being proactive now can save time and help ensure you maximise your deductions especially for tools and platforms that support your organisation’s governance, compliance, and operational quality.
